Giorgos Bizios
Giorgos Bizios is a Cypriot composer of contemporary and experimental music, performer, and performance maker. Driven by the perpetual urge to deconstruct and understand the complexities of the human experience, he utilizes the performing arts as a means to challenge notions of identity and time, viewing creativity as a catalyst for transformation. Revolving around temporal systems and logics, repetition, stillness, slowness, the relation between body and sound, and deep listening, his work recontextualizes symbols and rituals to converge at the intersection of the corporeal and the spiritual, weaving the two realms together. Project: right in the center of the matter An anchored body evoking iconographic imagery, takes the form of a perpetual pulse. The hands extend from the ears to the heart and back, bridging the external with the internal, and every touch feels like an embrace for all that has been or will ever be. As I approach the center, I penetrate through everything that is not - the weight shifts from that of a rock to wide wings, and what once felt like a knot untangles into a tail attatched to my body; now I can balance myself and fly. This work is an alchemical exercise of resistance against anything that is not love. During the residency, I intend to revisit the choreographic composition of the work and experiment with ways of expanding the initial material, while further exploring the intersection of physical action and music performance.
