IN BETWEENING 2025
The art of exchange

INBETWEENING, the art of exchange project, was co-organized by the Adam Mickiewicz Institute and Dance House Lemesos as part of the international cultural program of the Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2025. The project was supported by: Rialto Theatre, Limassol Municipality, Nea Kinisi, Department of Antiquities The straight-line distance between Cyprus and Poland is 2184 kilometers, and while Archimedes claimed the straight line is the shortest path between two points, it often feels much further. Humans, especially artists, rarely take the direct route. We tend to follow more meandering paths, trusting that each step reveals new ways forward. What if we disregarded the linear distance between our countries and explored the infinitely rich space in-between? What if changing how we perceive and relate to each other, beyond what we already know, helps us uncover hidden areas that could bring us closer together? What if we expanded those connections? Let’s celebrate this encounter by engaging in a practice of INBETWEENING—sharing dances, ideas on dance-making, and creating spaces for dance. Let’s celebrate the art of choreography that explores and strengthens the connections between bodies and minds, rendering distance irrelevant.

BOW
Bodies of Work

A five-day intensive training program organised by Dance House Lemesos in October of 2019, supported by the Cultural Services-Cyprus Deputy Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports and Youth and developed in collaboration with BJCEM - Biennial of Young Artists from Europe and the Mediterranean.

During the intensive workshop, participants were introduced to specific creative and research tools and were encouraged to develop artistic discourses in order to allow them to articulate the question of embodiment: how social bodies, labouring bodies, political bodies which are put “to work” in performance are able to mirror the complex relationships between subjectivities in motion and their surroundings. The activities of the workshops were rooted in a social and geopolitical understanding of the bodies and their mobility. In this perspective, participants were given the chance to reflect on how geographical, social, artistic boundaries are affected, transformed, through the constant shift and relocation of the bodies in a possible transnational space.
