Performative Writing Program as part of the Open House Festival 2025
Let’s “write” the festival together!
The 16th International Festival of Contemporary Dance and Performance Open House (October 2–5) is on its way, and with it comes an open space for gathering, thinking, exchanging, and writing.
“Dear Festival & Friends” – a performative writing program that accompanies and feeds back into the festival’s main artistic program – will take place for the third year in a row, and you’re invited to become part of its team.
The program – curated and guided by Rodia Vomvolou (dance dramaturg, researcher) and Betina Panagiotara (dance theorist, dramaturg) – aims to activate critical thinking and creative writing through the experience of the festival’s performances. Through the practice of letter writing, Dear Festival & Friends creates a space for reflection and feedback, both for the festival and for those who participate.
How it works:
A working group will collectively attend all performances and meet daily to discuss and write down thoughts, impressions, and questions that arise from the works. The texts, written using the method of performative writing, will take the form of letters addressed to the creators, the works, the audience, or even the festival itself. These letters will then be published and distributed both online and in print, contributing to the development of a new way of reading and engaging with the festival.

Who can participate:
Artists, students, writers, researchers, journalists, audience members—anyone interested in performative writing and critical dialogue around the performing arts.
No previous writing experience is required.
The program is open to past members of the working group.
Workshop Dates & Times:
Thursday (02/10) 13:00-17:00, Friday (03/10) 13:00-17:00, Saturday (04/10) 10:00-14:00, Sunday (05/10) 12:00-16:00
All performances will be accessible free of charge to working group members.

–a short bio
–a brief motivation letter (up to 200 words), mentioning a dance/performance show you’ve seen and would choose to write about, along with a short explanation of your choice
