Από το ανθρώπινο σώμα στον Κόσμο, το HYPERSPACE είναι μια έρευνα πάνω στη μεθοδολογία μέτρησης των άγνωστων παραμέτρων του σύμπαντος. Το έργο προτείνει μια μελέτη παρατήρησης του ανθρώπινου σώματος μέσα από το πρίσμα της κοσμολογίας, μιας κεντρικής και περιφερειακής χαρτογράφησης του σύμπαντος.
Τα εσωτερικά και τα εξωτερικά τοπία του σώματος αποδομούνται, οδηγώντας σε μια αυτοκριτική για το αρρενωπό σώμα και την επιβολή του στη διερεύνηση του διαστήματος. Στο HYPERSPACE, το σαρκικό υλικό του σώματος λυγίζει, τεντώνεται και επανακαθορίζεται ως ένας εξωγήινος μετασχηματισμός, εμφανιζόμενο την ίδια στιγμή, κολοσσιαίο και μικροσκοπικό.
To HYPERSPACE είναι το τρίτο μιας σειράς έργων του Αυστραλού χορογράφου, το οποίο εξελίχθηκε μέσα από τη μοναδική ευκαιρία που είχε, να συμμετάσχει σε μια επιστημονική αποστολή στην Ανταρκτική το 2016. Αυτή η σειρά έργων περιλαμβάνει προσπάθειες δημιουργίας συζητήσεων, συνεργασιών και ανταλλαγών μεταξύ της επιστημονικής και της καλλιτεχνικής έρευνας.
Ο βραβευμένος χορογράφος και χορευτής James Batchelor κατάγεται από την Αυστραλία. Ο καλλιτεχνικός του στόχος είναι να δημιουργεί και να προτείνει έργα που προκαλούν περιέργεια, μετατοπίζουν και διευρύνουν αντιλήψεις. Ο χορογράφος ερευνά τρόπους που θα μπορούσε ο χορός να δημιουργήσει διάλογο, συνεργασίες και ανταλλαγές με άλλα είδη τέχνης και ομάδες/κοινότητες. Η καλλιτεχνική του δουλεία επικεντρώνεται στην αλληλοεπίδραση με το περιεχόμενο εκκινώντας από την ιδέα μέχρι και την παρουσίαση. Τον ενδιαφέρει ιδιαιτέρως πως μια παράσταση μπορεί να λειτουργήσει σε συγκεκριμένο χώρο και χρόνο. Ο James έχει σπουδάσει στο Victorian College of the Arts και αποφοίτησε το 2012 με Bachelor in Fine Arts (Dance). Τα τελευταία πέντε χρόνια έχει δημιουργήσει τα ακόλουθα έργα: Chunky Move (REDSHIFT), Dance Massive (HYPERSPACE ) και (DEEPSPACE), Dancehouse (ISLAND), Keir Choreographic Award (METASYSTEMS, INHABITED GEOMETRIES) και National Portrait Gallery of Australia (SMOOTH TRANSLATION).
Τα έργα του James έχουν παρουσιαστεί διεθνώς στις ακόλουθες χώρες: Παρίσι (La Briqueterie), Ρίγα (Homo Novous), Nτύσελντορφ (Tanzmesse), Μπρίστολ (Arnolfini), Λονδίνο (Chisenhale Dance), Νότιγχαμ (Dance4), Μπέρμιγχαμ (Birmingham International Dance Festival), Βερσαλλίες (Plastique Danse Flore), Λουξεμβούργο (Casino Luxembourg / Trois CL), Μπασσάνο Ντελ Γκράπα (Operaestate), Chongqing (501 Artspace) και Μπανγκόκ (Creative Industries). Υπήρξε φιλοξενούμενος καλλιτέχνης στο RV Investigator, το ερευνητικό θαλάσσιο σκάφος της Αυστραλίας, που ταξίδεψε στα νησιά Ηeard και McDonald του Ανταρκτικού το 2016.

From the human body to the cosmos, HYPERSPACE is an inquiry into the metrics we use to measure the deep unknowns of the universe. It proposes a study of the human body seen through the prism of cosmology, a mapping of the universe within and around it. The interior and exterior landscapes of the body are deconstructed, producing a self-critique of the masculine body and its dominance in space exploration. In HYPERSPACE, the fleshy material of the body bends, stretches and is reconfigured as alien transmutation, appearing simultaneously colossal and microscopic.
HYPERSPACE is the third in a series of works from the Australian choreographer that grew from a unique opportunity to be part of a scientific expedition to the Antarctic in 2016. This series of work including endeavours to create a conversation, collaboration and exchange between scientific and artistic inquiry.
James Batchelor is an award winning choreographer and dancer from Australia. His mission as an artist is to make work that inspires curiosity. To shift assumptions, widen awareness and create possibility. He strives to find ways that dance can be a conversation, collaboration and exchange with other disciplines and communities. His work is particular in how it responds to context, from conception to presentation; it strongly considers how a performance exists within a specific space and time.
James trained at the Victorian College of the Arts graduating with a Bachelor in Fine Arts (Dance) in 2012. Over the last five years he has generated an extensive body of work including commissions from Chunky Move (REDSHIFT) Dance Massive (HYPERSPACE ) and (DEEPSPACE), Dancehouse (ISLAND), Keir Choreographic Award (METASYSTEMS, INHABITED GEOMETRIES) and the National Portrait Gallery of Australia. (SMOOTH TRANSLATION).
James’s work has been presented internationally in Paris (La Briqueterie), Riga (Homo Novous), Dusseldorf (Tanzmesse), Bristol (Arnolfini), London (Chisenhale Dance), Nottingham (Dance4), Birmingham (Birmingham International Dance Festival), Versailles (Plastique Danse Flore), Luxembourg (Casino Luxembourg / Trois CL), Bassano del Grappa (Operaestate), Chongqing (501 Artspace) and Bangkok (Creative Industries). He was a resident artist on the RV Investigator, Australia’s marine research vessel, which travelled to the sub-Antarctic Heard and McDonald islands in 2016.
